WORKSHOPS for Educators in 2009

January 30, 2009 - Solar Schoolhouse Primer Workshop [Anaheim, CA]

Description: This hands-on, project-based, professional development workshop will provide an introduction to  solar energy through a personal connection – your home.  The ‘Your Solar Home’ curriculum  materials guide you through the fundamental math & science principles, along with historical  perspective, to prepare you and your students for a New Energy Future that is here today!

You’ll review the fundamentals of solar energy along with heat transfer basics (radiation,conduction, convection), 
applying these principles to the construction of a working solar cooker that can reach 200F.  
You will also learn about the magic of photovoltaics (aka solar cells) that convert  sunlight to electricity 
-- with no moving parts! - and you will wire solar cells together powering motors, fans, and radios.  
You’ll take away techniques for enhancing your electricity lessons and ideas for projects you can  build with your students.  
You’ll build a solar powered musical whirlygig that will serve as teaching  tool in your classroom.
