GM Installs High-Tech Solar Power System at San Fernando Valley Dealership
Four Non-Profits to Receive Alternative Fuel Vehicles

SOURCE: Press Release - General Motors - Yahoo Bizwire 2001.10.26

WHAT: General Motors will announce a partnership with the Air Quality Management District (AQMD) to install a BP solar power electrical system at the new Rydell GM dealership in the city of San Fernando, Calif., and clean air, natural gas-powered microturbine generators at five California dealerships. The generators will allow the dealerships to remove themselves from the state's electric power grid, if the need arises. This unique partnership aims to provide clean air resources to local communities, solutions to California's energy issues, and a reduction in air pollution.

GM will also donate Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered vans to three community organizations in the Southland selected by the AQMD. They are The Desert Community Foundation, Palm Springs; Michael E. Rodgers Seniors' Center, Huntington Beach; and Sylmar Graffiti Busters Inc., Sylmar. A fourth non-profit organization will be surprised with a CNG van during the news conference.
